Flip-Flops Have Hidden Alcohol Compartment

Flip-Flops Have Hidden Alcohol Compartment

Footwear maker Reef recently introduced a line of flip-flops that include secret compartments for hiding alcohol, the Baltimore Examiner reported March 29.

Each flip-flop has a compartment that can hold a one-ounce bottle of alcohol; the sandals also come with a miniature funnel and measuring bar. The built-in flask is included in several styles of sandals for men, including "Dram" and "BYOB," and are priced at about $45. The flip-flops have the image of a mixer stamped on the sole.

"Kids wear flip-flops to school and all over the place," said Mike Gimbel, director of substance abuse education at Sheppard Pratt Health Systems in Baltimore, Md. "You would never know the kid was walking around with vodka in the bottom of their shoe."

"It’s just another avenue ... to circumvent a law meant to protect children.” said Susan Katz, president of the Baltimore County PTA Council.
